School Improvement Grant Funding
This memo was sent by Superintendent Carl Toliver to acknowledge everyone who has worked hard to make the SIG grant possible. Those individuals who played a part in securing this significant grant and therefore received this memo are listed at the bottom of this page.

As you all know by now, SUSD's School Improvement Grant (SIG) application has been recommended for funding, to the tune of more than 34 million dollars! If approved by the State Board of Education this month, all seven of SUSD’s SIG-eligible schools will receive $1.5 million or more per year for three years, which they will use to implement one of the school improvement models recommended by the U.S. Department of Education—Turnaround model at Taylor Elementary; Transformation model at Fremont, Harrison, Henry, and Roosevelt; and Restart at Nightingale and Pittman...

Twenty-One Years of Celebrating
SUSD Visual and Performing Arts

Our SUSD students illustrated their talents in the Annual Visual and Performing Arts Showcase held at the Stockton Arena on the evening of March 7, 2012. The Record referred to the showcase as “An arena transformed Wednesday evening into a school version of Carnegie Hall.” The notable presentation featured over 2100 students from 45 SUSD schools. Superintendent Carl Toliver led the presentation of medallions to all of the participants.
The highlight of the 2012 showcase was the Combined High School Illuminating Digital Art Exhibit. The brilliant performances by the Orchestras, Concert Bands, Choirs, Mariachi, Jazz Band and Dancers attributed to the tremendous success of the Showcase. Selections from Bach to Disney arrangements were among the amazing repertoire performed by the SUSD ensemble. The art work showcased on the Concourse of the Arena was an exemplary exhibit with rave reviews from attendees.
An ovation is given to all of the supportive staff, parents, District Administration and the SUSD Board of Trustees for being the most enthusiastic audience.

Governing Board Student Representatives
At each board meeting during the course of the school year, each high school, on a rotating basis, sends a student representative to sit on the dais with board members. The board agenda calls for the student to be introduced by the school principal followed by an overview of school activities and events presented by the student.
