SUSD Holds Community Meetings on the Budget

Interim Superintendent Steve Vaczovsky has scheduled a series of community meetings to receive input from parents and community members on the district’s finances in the face of the current budget crisis.

- Thursday, November 19 at 6:00 pm at Stagg High School
- Wednesday, December 9 at 6:00 pm at Chavez High School
- Thursday, December 10 at 6:00 pm at Edison High School

Meetings will be held in each school’s auditorium.

District officials want to know what programs and services parents value for their children and any ideas people have for saving money.  For more information, call 933-7070.

Introducing Steve Vaczovsky
SUSD Interim Superintendent


Steve Vaczovsky (pronounced Va-sof-ski), hired in August to lead SUSD’s human resources department, was named acting superintendent by the board of trustees on September 29. The board then chose to forego a lengthier process to name an interim superintendent when Mr. Vaczovsky agreed to accept that appointment on October 13.
He will remain in the position until the board selects a permanent superintendent.

Meet the new Manager in the District
JANET A. RIVERA
Director of Parent and Community Empowerment

Janet A. Rivera has joined the district in the new position of Director of Parent and Community Empowerment.  Janet is a Stockton Native and has been involved in community service all of her life.  Currently she is serving as Vice President on the San Joaquin Delta Board of Trustees as well as many other prestigious educational boards and councils.  For her work in the community, she has received many community service awards, most notably the Susan B. Anthony Award and the Mexican-American Hall of Fame.  Professionally, Ms. Rivera has worked in the area of education for her entire career.  Her experience in education and ties to the local community will be a huge asset to the district in her role of working with the community and parents.

National Hispanic College Fairs

The National Hispanic College Fairs would like to extend a special invitation to high school juniors and undecided seniors to participate in our Fall College and Career Fair. Many of the finest colleges, universities and trade schools will have representatives present to explain what programs and opportunities they have to offer our students.

Governing Board Student Representatives

At each board meeting during the course of the school year, each high school, on a rotating basis, sends a student representative to sit on the dais with board members. The board agenda calls for the student to be introduced by the school principal followed by an overview of school activities and events presented by the student.

The following student represented Jane Frederick Continuation School at the board meeting of November 10, 2009.

DALICIO WASHINGTON »

Dalicio Washington is 18 years old and a senior at Jane Frederick Continuation High School. He will be graduating in May of 2010. Dalicio has participated in the school’s credit recovery program and currently carries a 3.0 grade point average. Dalicio has an excellent attendance record and is a member of the School Site Council.
After graduation, Dalicio is planning to join the Air Force.
