Board Admission Policy
Admission
Proof of age shall be required of all enrolling students. The legal evidences of age, in order of desirability, are a birth certificate, baptismal certificate, passport, immigration certificate, Bible record, or affidavit from the parent/guardian.
Kindergarten -- Age of Admission
A child who will have reached the age of five years on or before December 2 of the current school year shall be eligible for enrollment in kindergarten. (Education Code 48000)
Early Entry to Kindergarten
With parental approval, the district may admit children who are five years old into kindergarten at any time during the school year.
Classroom space must be available, and the class size cap specified in certificated negotiated agreements may not be exceeded.
The Board shall provide parents/guardians with information as to the effects, advantages and disadvantages of early entry into kindergarten. (Education Code 48000) (cf. 5123 - Promotion/Acceleration/Retention)
First Grade -- Age of Admission
A child who will have reached the age of six years on or before December 2 of the current school year shall be eligible for enrollment in the first grade. (Education Code 48010)
Early Entry to First Grade
A child enrolled in kindergarten may be admitted to the first grade at the discretion of the principal and upon determination that the child is ready for first grade work. Admission shall be subject to the following minimum criteria.

The child is at least five years of age.

The child has attended a public school kindergarten for a long enough time to enable school personnel to evaluate his/her ability.

The child is in the upper five percent of his/her age group in terms of general mental ability.

The physical development and social maturity of the child are consistent with his/her advanced mental ability.

The parent/guardian of the child has filed a written statement with the school district approving the placement in first grade.
