School
Governor
Jerry Brown and State
Super-intendent Tom Torlakson
visited Van Buren Elementary
School on Thursday, April
14, 2011 to conduct a Town
Hall Meeting concerning the
funding crisis in K-12
education. Along with
Deputy Finance Director Todd

district in San Joaquin
County, SUSD Board Members,
other area politicians
including Mayor Ann
Johnston, key members of the
local business community,
union leaders, teachers from
several county school

the topic was a somber one,

the governor’s advance team
for its attention to detail
and its readiness for
contingencies.

staff who participated to
make this event a success!

At each board meeting during
the course of the school year, each high school, on a rotating basis, sends
a student representative to sit on the dais with board members. The board
agenda calls for the student to be introduced by the school principal
followed by an overview of school activities and events presented by the
student.
