PRINCIPAL MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL On behalf of the Cesar Chavez administration, I wish to welcome all of our students, staff and parents back to school. As we start our fourth year, we should all be excited about the new opportunities this year will present. This year will mark another first. We will graduate our first four-year senior class to build on our first ever graduation last year. Our goal will be to graduate 600 seniors this year, which will be the largest graduation class in the history of Stockton Unified School District. With the addition of our 38 minimum days, we will be able to develop and grow our Small Learning Communities model by focusing on building distinctive identities for each SLC (via electives and thematic instruction). We will start to develop opportunities for our students to focus on their goals after high school so that they are prepared for the challenges they will face after high school. We will improve instruction and student engagement, as well as implementing SLC thematic/project based learning. In addition, this year we will start our Freshman Academy that will focus on assisting freshman transition to high school, build their study skills, improve their writing skills, improve their reading skills and teach them about our SLC design. Our departments will be able to do all the same and continue their focus on common assessments and utilizing data to improve student performance and instructional effectiveness. This year will be an exciting year and I look forward to working with all of you to continue to make our school the best high school not just in Stockton Unified, but in the entire city of Stockton. Thank you, Will Nelson, Principal
