Cesar E. Chavez        School History        Mission Statement

Who was Cesar E. Chavez

This school is named after a very great man who literally gave his life to help improve the work conditions of farm workers in this country. Cesar Chavez was a "voice for the voiceless" representing the many migrant farm worker's who labored in the fields of California and Arizona for pennies a day. Cesar Chavez peacefully advocated for better wages, work conditions, and the safety of migrant farm workers. He went on numerous hunger strikes (lasting several weeks) and marches on the state capitols until the laws and policies were changed. Not bad for the son of a migrant farm worker who had his education disrupted repeatedly due to his family moving from one town to another, from one elementary school to another until he dropped out of school to support his family. Cesar Chavez was born in 1927 in San Luis, AZ. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Navy. He has many schools, streets, and parks named after him in both California and Arizona. He died in 1993. Cesar Chavez made a difference by exercising a fundamental human quality, a genuine love for his fellowman.

Cesar Chavez High School was "officially" dedicated in August 2005 and is the first high school in the SUSD in the last 50 years. The Chavez family was not able to attend this honor due to a school union strike.  The family honored the strike by not passing the picket line. We are honored to be in a school that is named after such a great Champion of humanity. Si Se Puede!

School History

Cesar Chavez High School was completed and began educating students in August 2005.  We are the newest high school in Stockton Unified School District in the last 50 years.

Our Mission

Our vision at Cesar Chavez is built around the 4 R’s: Rigor, Relevancy, Relationships and Results!  Chavez High School has created Small Learning Communities (SLC) in which the 4 R’s can become a reality.  My expectation for teachers is high, so it is my responsibility to provide the support needed to achieve the Results!   It is just the beginning to an exciting journey here at Cesar Chavez High School.

We made tremendous improvements the first three years and there is still much work to be done.  I believe that if we continue to work together on making Cesar Chavez High unique, we can accomplish great things for us as professionals and also for our students and community.
