"ELMWOOD, AN ARTS AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT SCHOOL"

Our philosophy of Elmwood as an
Arts-Infused School.
- PRINCIPAL'S VISION -

ELMWOOD ELEMENTARY MISSION STATEMENT
The staff at Elmwood Elementary School believes unwaveringly that all students can achieve high academic standards through the infusion of the arts. Through the arts we will be able to see and hear the achievements of all students. Students will understand how to think deeply and then be able to apply knowledge in new ways. By infusing the arts into daily academic instruction, students will achieve real and significant academic growth. We KNOW that through arts infusion Elmwood School is educating the creative and intellectual side of the human personality thus, educating the whole child.

December 17, 2009

On Dec. 17th Elmwood School presented our Annual Winter Programs for our parents.  Our staff and students provided a wonderful program highlighting the Holiday Season!  Many parents commented on how our students did a fantastic job in using the “Arts”.  The Elmwood Community is very thankful for the “Arts” – Dance, Music, Visual Arts, and Theater for they help to make a “Wonderful World” at Elmwood School.

Fellows Lodge Partners with Elmwood

In an effort to increase student and parent involvement at Elmwood School, our Parent Teacher Organization is going to host “Movie Time” for Elmwood students and their families. The Charity Lodge No. 6, Independent Order of Odd Fellows is going to be a major sponsor of the “Movie Time” events. Mrs. Gwen Addie of the Odd Fellows Lodge presented Mr. Semillo and Mrs. Peni Sarafin, PTO President, with a $400 check to help with our efforts. Also in attendance during the presentation were Harvey Addie, Bob Allen, Rich Gohlke and Jim Coyle of the Odd Fellows Lodge. Elmwood School is very excited to have the Odd Fellows Lodge as a partner in providing a well rounded education for our students!

What Do Illustrators Do?

Students in 3rd Grade read a story titled “What Do Illustrators Do?”  In our reading series, Illustrators are Artists, so Mrs. Jensen, our VAPA Teacher was invited to Ms. Padilla’s class to see how an artist works when completing a drawing.  First Mrs. Jensen showed a few samples of her work.  She is a great Artist!  Then she did a sketch of Kerry Moua and the students were very impressed by Mrs. Jensen’s talent!!

H1N1 Flu Vaccine Clinic

Elmwood School recently held an H1N1 Flu Vaccine Clinic for Elmwood Students in the school auditorium.  Over 200 H1N1 vaccines were given to our students.  Coupled with the 335 seasonal flu mists that were given in October, our students are well prepared for the flu season.  It was fantastic to see all the parents come out and take advantage of a great opportunity to protect their children.  We would also like to say Thank You to the SUSD Health Services Department and our wonderful School Nurses for providing the clinic.  Special Thanks, to Elmwood’s School Nurse, Robyn Mendoza, for her hard work and dedication to Elmwood Students!!
