Our Mission

To treat all students with severe disabilities with respect and dignity, and to improve their quality of life by enhancing their functional skills so they will be an integral member of their family and community.

About Our Facilities

Walton Special Center has three distinctive programs-preschool, elementary and high school/young adult.

Also located on the Walton campus is the Early Intervention Program, which serves infants and toddlers who have special needs and their families.

The Center features a full kitchen and an indoor therapy pool. The site is attractive and always well maintained.

About Roger Walton
and the Walton Special Center

Roger M. V. Walton spent 28 years of his 40-year career in education as a Stockton Unified School District administrator. His efforts convinced the Legislature to fund a community-based program for multihandicapped minors.

Walton Development Center, now called Walton Special Center, was constructed in June 1970.

Today Walton Special Center provides special education services to students age 3 to 22 with severe disabilities who live within the Stockton Unified School District.
