Two to Get Ready
Literacy Program for Second
Graders
The San Joaquin/Stockton public
library and Stockton Unified
School District in a
collaborative effort offers a
literacy program for second
graders called Two to Get Ready.
Studies show that in general
children who do not read by
second grade are at a severe
disadvantage for their entire
school career. This program
gives parents skills that will
help them to turn their children
on to reading which is crucial
for success in school and it
teaches the students that
reading can be FUN!
This approximately one hour
program is open to five schools
in our district for the
2011-2012 school year. Those
schools participating are
August, Fremont, McKinley,
Spanos and Taylor.
