Inani Winds Quintet Performs
for
Stockton Unified School District
Students
Imani Winds is an American wind
quintet based in New York. The
group was founded in 1997 and is
known for its adventurous
programming, which includes
newly composed works, as well as
compositions featuring African,
Latin American, and American
influences.
The group has released four CDs.
The Classical Underground was
nominated for a Grammy award in
2006. Imani Winds have toured
internationally and throughout
the United States and Canada.
The group's members are of
African American and Latin
American ancestry, and the name
Imani means "faith" in the
Swahili language. One of the
members of the quintet is a
University of the Pacific
alumni. Inani Winds performed
for students at Fremont, King
and McKinley Elementary Schools.
