2nd Annual Science Blast

The 2nd Annual Science Blast (Small Worlds – Big Questions) Conference engaged 5th grade students with hands-on activities to stimulate their minds, curiosity, critical thinking skills, and problem solving by experts in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math on November 4, 2011. Every student had an opportunity to explore, inspect and gather information from various sources and take home a product of their own. San Joaquin Delta College Campus housed over 600 eager students ready to learn, 100 teachers and parent volunteers eager to inspire, 23 college mentors ready to teach, and 18 high school volunteers (9 students from Health Career Academy). The audience had an opportunity to hear Maria Reyes from the Freedom Writers and former NASA Astronaut Jose M. Hernandez encourage students to follow their dreams and aim high for success. This conference was financially supported and sponsored by Astronaut Jose M. Hernandez Reaching for the Stars Foundation, Stockton Unified School District, and San Joaquin Delta College.
