2nd Annual Science Blast
The 2nd Annual Science
Blast (Small Worlds – Big
Questions) Conference
engaged 5th grade students
with hands-on activities to
stimulate their minds,
curiosity, critical thinking
skills, and problem solving
by experts in the field of
Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math on
November 4, 2011. Every
student had an opportunity
to explore, inspect and
gather information from
various sources and take
home a product of their own.
San Joaquin Delta College
Campus housed over 600 eager
students ready to learn, 100
teachers and parent
volunteers eager to inspire,
23 college mentors ready to
teach, and 18 high school
volunteers (9 students from
Health Career Academy). The
audience had an opportunity
to hear Maria Reyes from the
Freedom Writers and former
NASA Astronaut Jose M.
Hernandez encourage students
to follow their dreams and
aim high for success. This
conference was financially
supported and sponsored by
Astronaut Jose M. Hernandez
Reaching for the Stars
Foundation, Stockton Unified
School District, and San
Joaquin Delta College.
