At each board meeting during
the course of the school year, each high school, on a rotating basis, sends
a student representative to sit on the dais with board members. The board
agenda calls for the student to be introduced by the school principal
followed by an overview of school activities and events presented by the
student.
Sandra
Mendez, Stockton Early
College Academy

Sandra
Mendez was born in New Jersey
and has now attained the ripe
old age of 15. She has an older
sister, Tania (age 19), a
younger sister, Vivian (age 2),
and another sister on the way.
She arrived at SECA by way of
Hamilton Elementary School, and
immediately impressed both her
peers and the SECA faculty with
her high intelligence,
outstanding work ethic, and
engaging smile. Early in the
year, she participated in the
Delta College STEM competition,
winning the Silver Medal in
Mathematics. That amazing
success was a prophetic
harbinger of even greater things
to come…
Sandra’s interests are wide and
deep, and range from playing
musical instruments (violin,
piano, guitar, and clarinet) to
drawing and reading, and, of
course, chatting! Although she
can, and does, create time for
these diversions, her first
priority is always school, which
is, as she puts it, “…the source
from which she can make all of
her future career and lifestyle
plans a reality.”
Sandra is well on her way to
success. During her freshman
year at SECA, she has
successfully completed all four
of her required core Honors
courses, including Algebra II
Honors, as well as earned nine
units of college credit. Like
all SECA students, she is also
an AVID student. For her high
school elective course this
year, Sandra chose Journalism,
and has had a number of her
articles published in The
Wolves’ Chronicle, SECA’s award
winning newspaper. In addition,
she served as a Teaching
Assistant for her Mathematics
Instructor, Dr. Hebert-Swartzer,
and was a member of the SECA
MESA team. Next year she will
also participate in ACADEC. Her
first semester GPA was a
sterling 4.14, and this semester
is poised to be even higher.
Her future plans include
attending The University of

hospital in either New York or
New Jersey, eventually earning
her Doctorate in Medicine.
