The
3rd Annual Science Blast, 2012 (To
Explore the Solar System) Conference
engaged 5th grade
students with hands-on activities to
stimulate their minds, curiosity,
critical thinking skills, and
problem solving by experts in the
field of Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math on October 12,
2012. Every student had an
opportunity to explore, inspect and
gather information from various
sources and take home a product of
their own. San Joaquin Delta College
Campus housed over 810 eager
students ready to learn, 125
teachers and parent volunteers eager
to inspire, 47 Delta College mentors
ready to teach, and 18 high school
volunteers, Weber Institute, the
Health Career Academy, Stockton
Early College Academy, and Merlo
Institute of Environmental
Technology High Schools.
The audience had an opportunity to
hear from former NASA Astronaut Jose
M. Hernandez who encouraged students
to follow their dreams and aim high
for school success. This conference
was financially supported and
sponsored by Stockton Unified School
District, San Joaquin Delta College
and Astronaut Jose M. Hernandez
Reaching for the Stars Foundation.
